Apparently Everyone DOESN'T Think Your Principal is your "PAL"

A biting commentary on the state of people's sanity today...

Police: Providence principal bitten by angry parent
03/17/09 Projo
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A middle school principal was bitten by a parent after he told her that her son was being suspended from school.
Roger Williams Principal Rudolph Moseley Jr. said that in his office on Friday, he told the parent, Aleyda Uceta of 164 Gallatin St., Providence, that her 11-year-old son would be suspended for three days. He said she became very angry and began yelling at him in his office.
According to a police report, Uceta then punched Moseley in the face. When Moseley pushed the mother away, he was struck by the student, according to the police. Uceta then grabbed Moseley's arm and began biting him.
In an effort to calm the situation, a teacher tried to calm Uceta by speaking to her in Spanish, and Uceta punched her in the face, according to the police.
When the police arrived, they attempted to escort Uceta out of the school but she continued to try to punch Moseley. She also resisted attempts by the police to take her into custody.
By then, a large crowd of Uceta's family had gathered around the police, making it difficult for them to take her into custody.
During the struggle, Uceta bit a patrolman's arm and struck him in the face. After Uceta was placed into police custody, police heard her say, "I'm going to take your gun and shoot all of you," according to the police report.
While handcuffed and seated on the floor, Uceta attemped to kick the window panes out of a door in the school's main office.
Both the police and Moseley received bite wounds to their arms, according to the police report. One patrolman also sustained a back injury. Moseley was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Uceta was charged with assault on school officials, assault on police officers and resisting legal arrest.

Representatives... OF THEMSELVES

I know it’s a matter of big picture and this is just one thing, but it’s the kind of stuff that really ticks me off….

Kyng's political rant for today: Infuriating things about our legislature and our Congressional ‘old boy’ network…

And yes, this is MERELY 10 million dollars, but it exemplifies the disgusting way things are done “on our behalf” by elected officials.

If you look at the vote below, I highlighted where both RI Senators spinelessly voted the bill down. The average person has NO time to wade through the convoluted reports and websites JUST to find out how their own reps voted on bills. In fact, it appears to be purposefully made extremely difficult to research such things. Obtaining this information took at least 15 minutes. And this is ONE highly publicized bill that was voted on yesterday. You could NEVER keep track of how your rep voted on key issues on a regular basis.

It’s disheartening and disgusting.
And, from such a Democratically entrenched state as RI, such “go along” behavior is to be expected.

And then Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid addressed the issue of this amendment/bill, saying “I’ve been here going on 27 years,” he said. “No one should come and lecture me on what my role is as a member of Congress.”

REALLY???? ACTUALLY, YES THEY SHOULD, SIR. YOU ARE A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE PEOPLE, AND THAT ATTITUDE BELIES YOUR ARROGANCE. YOUR ROLE IS TO DO THE RIGHT THING, TO ACT RESPONSIBLY ON THE PEOPLE’S BEHALF, AND TO LISTEN TO THE OPINIONS AND SUGGESTIONS OF OTHER SENATORS AND YOUR CONSTITUENCY.

From the Washington Post:
…The Senate approved $10 million in funding yesterday for clients of the PMA Group, "a now-disbanded lobbying firm that is under federal investigation for alleged fraud in political contributions to members of Congress…”

The Market Drop almost Didn't Matter at ALL...

The Earth has had a near miss this week when a huge asteroid whizzed past, less than 50,000 miles away.

Wednesday March 04, 2009 ~ Sky.com

The asteroid had been spotted by astronomers monitoring the skies
The asteroid - about the size of a 10-storey building - flew past the
Earth at roughly twice the distance of the highest Earth-orbiting satellites, according to website space.com.
It is similar in size to a rock that exploded above
Siberia in 1908, flattening 80 million trees across an 800 square mile area.
The impact had the force of a thousand atomic bombs, astronomers say.
Asteroid 2009 DD45 was closest to the earth on Monday at around 8.30am, at just under 45,000 miles above the surface of the planet.
Astronomers knew it was coming after it was spotted last Saturday as a faint dot showing up in pictures at the Siding Spring Observatory in
Australia.
There was never any risk of collision, experts said, but anything flying within 50,000 miles of the Earth is taken very seriously.
The closest listed "flyby" to Earth by an asteroid happened in March 2004 when a small one - 2004 FU162 - measuring about 20 feet across came within about 4,000 miles of the earth.
Asteroids are rocks ranging in size from a few feet to several miles in diameter.
Most of them orbit the sun in the asteroid belt between
Mars and Jupiter.
